Greening the GATT: Trade, Environment, and the Future
Author: Daniel C C Esty
Sparked by the recent NAFTA debate and the Uruguay Round of GATT trade negotiations, policymakers are now searching for ways to lessen the conflict between freer trade and environmental protection. Esty analyzes the policy failures that contribute to this conflict and develops a program for building environmental sensitivity into the GATT. Esty concludes that the building of environmental values into the international trading system would not be enough; equally fundamental changes are required in environmental policymaking. He recommends the creation of a Global Environmental Organization to protect environmental policies from neglect by competitiveness-driven governments; to integrate environmental protection with trade, development, and other potentially competing goals; and to coordinate global environmental efforts.

Class Questions: Feminist Answers
Author: Joan Acker
Class Questions Feminist Answers examines feminist theories of class and intersectionality and proposes a theory of gendered and racialized class processes as deeply embedded in capitalist practices, both historically and today. Joan Acker argues that large work organizations are primary locations in which gendered and racialized class inequalities are created. As neo-liberal market practices reorganize work, gendered and racialized class inequalities are both reorganized and increasing nationally and globally. This book will appeal to readers interested in a feminist discussion of class as a racialized and gendered process intimately tied to the capitalist economic system.
